GUITAR AND BASS LESSONS

I've loved teaching ever since I began in 2005.  The best teachers I had inspired me by not only helping me achieve what I wanted to be able to do on the instrument, but also by showing me more than I knew was possible.  They epxanded my musical horizon, and I've always aimed to do the same in my role as a tutor.

 

Each student is different, with unique goals, starting points and interests, so I work with everyone as an individual to help them get where they would like to go.

TOPICS COVERED

The electric, acoustic and bass guitars each have their own unique aspects to study, which are detailed below.

However, there are some subjects that we can study regardless of which instrument we're playing.  These include:

  • Music Theory

  • Composition and arrangement

  • Musical notation

  • Ear training

  • Instrument setup and maintenance

In terms of style and genre, we can study whatever each student is interested in, be it pop, rock, jazz, metal, blues funk, country, soul...

Electric & acoustic guitar

  • Fretting hand articulation and muting

  • Strumming

  • Picking (alternate, sweep, hybrid etc)

  • String bending

  • Vibrato

  • Legato (hammer-ons and pull-offs)

  • Fingerstyle

  • Tapping

  • Palm muting

  • Slides

Bass Guitar

  • Fretting hand articulation and muting

  • Fingerstyle

  • Picking

  • Slapping and popping

  • Hammer-ons and pull-offs

  • Walking bass lines

ONLINE LESSONS

All lessons are conducted via Zoom, so all students will need a stable internet connection, a webcam and a microphone.  The inbuilt camera and mic on a laptop are perfectly suitable.

Teaching materials (transcriptions, backing tracks, theory notes etc) can be sent via zoom, email, or accessed through Dropbox.
